Regional Forum: North East forum: Recruitment focus

15th October 2008, 10.00am - 2.00pm, Newcastle Past event

Regional forums are free to EFD members and provide up-to-date information on a specific theme, determined by member feedback from previous events. While enabling members to network and share best practice, they also highlight how to make the best use of the support EFD membership provides. Members receive an invitation with further details of event content nearer to the time of each event.

This North East forum is the first forum event in the region and follows on from our successful MegaQuiz event in March earlier this year. This forum will focus on recruitment.

If your recruitment processes exclude disabled people you may unwittingly be turning away talented and loyal disabled candidates. It could also leave your business vulnerable to costly tribunals and immeasurable brand damage.

This event will examine the business and social benefits to your organisation of employing disabled people. It will help you understand your legal obligations as an employer under the DDA and help you to explore alternative methods of pro-actively attracting and recruiting disabled staff.

Who will be speaking at this event?

  • Guy Bredenkamp, Associate Solicitor, Eversheds
  • Rick Williams, Director, Freeney Williams
  • Ruth Woodfine, Project Manager, Employability (part of the Percy Hedley Foundation).

Why attend?

This event enables you to:

  • Discover the business and social benefits to your organisation of employing people with disabilities
  • Understand your legal obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act
  • Receive guidance on how to minimise the legal and reputational risk to your organisation when contracting out services to recruitment agencies
  • Identify common barriers to disabled applicants in the various stages of the recruitment process
  • Learn about alternative methods of proactively attracting and recruiting disabled staff
  • Learn from the experience of other organisations, share best practice and network with other EFD members.

Who should attend?

This member only event is for line managers, HR managers and all employees with an interest in disability who are based in the North East region.
