As computer technology develops at such a fast pace, it is vital that you have a good understanding of the key issues of web accessibility so that disabled people can access your websites.
This practical workshop is designed to give you the most up-to-date information and current issues in web design and accessibility. It has been created specifically for web designers, covering the real issues in Flash, PDFs, Ajax and Web 2.0. It will give you an opportunity to directly apply your learning throughout the day in practical sessions.
The workshop is being run in partnership with AbilityNet, a national charity specialising in helping disabled people make the most of IT. The web section within AbilityNet is a highly respected and award wining team and their clients include Microsoft, IBM and the BBC.
Speakers include Jon Gooday, Accessibility Development Manager and Robin Christopherson, Head of Accessibility Services at AbilityNet. Jon was on the expert panel for the drafting of BSI PAS 78 Guide to good practice in commissioning accessible websites and was the AbilityNet project manager for the BBC's accessibility help website, 'My Web My Way'. Robin understands first hand the needs of disabled people using the web, as he uses a screen reader himself. He is well known for his witty, insightful and practical presentations.
This event enables you to:
- Understand the barriers that PDF, Flash, Ajax and Web 2.0 have commonly present to disabled users.
- Use new software features to create accessible documents and web content.
- Learn how to keep up-to-date with accessible IT and gain practical tips from fellow professionals.
- Learn about disabled user-testing findings on web technologies.
- Understand the current guidelines, with the most up-to-date changes, and how to work with them.
- Learn from practical examples and case studies.
- Work in groups on laptops and directly apply what you learn throughout the day.
