We recognise that in order to serve our global marketplace and maintain a competitive advantage we must promote diversity and inclusion in how we do business and ensure a diverse and inclusive working environment. Equality of opportunity for disabled people is an integral part of this, which is why we are proud to be Gold Card members of the Employers' Forum on Disability.
InterContinental Hotels Group's DDA/Disability Confidence strategy is to work with all to enhance access for all, and to establish disability confidence as a key business driver. A business wide review, conducted by our Disability Working Group in association with established disability consultants, identified barriers and challenges to inclusion for disabled people. A comprehensive action plan, underpinned by an initial £12.8m from the Board, produced tangible results in making our guest rooms and conference facilities more accessible to people with disabilities. Access Kits containing induction loops, vibrating pagers and evacuation chairs have been installed and Blue Badge car parking provided. In addition, award winning training was delivered to 13,000 employees over six months, enhancing their ability and confidence to serve disabled delegates. Sponsored by our executives, driven by employees and franchisees, coordinated by our Disability Working Group and supported by disability consultants we aim to ensure that disabled people feel welcome, every time.
We understand that every customer has different needs and we aim to make our hotel facilities available and accessible to all of our guests equally. In rare instance where this is not possible, our hotel teams will be happy to provide personal help and assistance and we will endeavour to offer a suitable alternative. Our UK hotels offer a range of facilities for guests with a perspective on disability including the following:
- Designated Blue Badge car parking
- Accessible facilities – bar, restaurant and meeting rooms
- Accessible washroom
- Accessible bedrooms
- Menus available in large print
- Induction loops
- Assistance dogs welcome
- Ceiling track hoist facilities in selected hotels
