Forum deputy chief executive meets with Archbishop of Canterbury
On the 10th May, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, convened a major seminar on disability topics at Lambeth Palace. This brought together for the first time all the relevant spokespeople from within the Church of England, plus representatives from the DRC and the Employers' Forum on Disability.
A wide variety of topics included employment practices, how to cope with newly disabled employees, the various issues of parishioners, congregations and tourists to 16,000 churches, the appropriate accessibility of ancient buildings and a particular focus on mental health issues.
Niccola Swan, deputy chief executive of the Employers' Forum on Disability said:
“It was a very successful meeting indicating a lot of work already underway but with much more still to do.”
The Archbishop's Council of the Church of England has been a member of the Forum since 2003. A follow-up meeting is planned shortly between Niccola Swan, Su Morgan, HR Director of the Archbishop's Council of the Church of England and David Williams, Chair of the Accessibility for All Group.
