The Scottish Parliament report – Removing Barriers and Creating Opportunities
The Scottish Parliament's Equal Opportunities Committee has recommended that industry organisations work with the Employers' Forum on Disability and the Disability Rights Commission to co-ordinate good practice among members in service provision to disabled people.
The report, entitled Removing Barriers and Creating Opportunities, submitted to the Scottish Parliament, also says that the Disability Rights Commission, and the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, which will replace it in October 2007, should work to develop and disseminate best practice in the conduct of interviews and the wider recruitment process as it relates to disabled people.
The Employers' Forum on Disability (the Forum) welcomes the recommendations. The Forum gave oral evidence to the committee in January 2006 and research produced by the Forum was used during the course of the inquiry.
The report provides many useful policy proposals that the Forum hopes will go some way to improving the lives of disabled people in Scotland.
