Appointment of James Purnell as work and pensions secretary – EFD response.

Responding to the appointment of James Purnell as work and pensions secretary, Employers' Forum on Disability chief executive Susan Scott-Parker says: “I would like to welcome James Purnell in his new role as work and pensions secretary.

“We have previously enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the Department of Work and Pensions, with both ministers and officials.

“It's our belief that the government can only achieve its 80 per cent employment target by recognising that employers are vital partners in increasing the employment rate among disabled people.

“We hope that Mr Purnell will continue to develop a dialogue with employers and disabled people and we look forward to developing a strong working relationship his office in the months to come.”
