Employers' Forum on Disability (EFD) is the world's leading employers' organisation working to the mutual benefit of business and people with disabilities. We help UK and global companies develop best practice in the field of disability and to effect sustainable culture change.
Funded and managed by member organisations, EFD is widely recognised for having pioneered a radically new approach to engaging business on disability as an economic and ethical priority. EFD now sets the standard by which business measures its performance on this complex issue.

Disability Directions
Disability Directions is a free, confidential information service for members of EFD. It provides tailored responses to members' individual needs, two hours' free work on individual projects, connect service for disabled employees and service users experiencing difficulties with member organisations. It also produces fact sheets on disability related topics and provides an advice desk at selected EFD events.
Job purpose
To provide timely and accurate replies to member enquiries and to keep up to date with legal and best practice developments in relation to disability.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- To answer member queries by telephone, letter, fax or email quickly, accurately and in line with best practice.
- To be an internal resource for other members of the team on best practice
- To minimise members' risk by utilising the Connect service where appropriate.
- To quickly and accurately log queries on the Forum's database within the Disability Directions aims and targets.
- To complete customer satisfaction feedback forms as directed by the Disability Directions Manager.
- To ensure that any complaints regarding the Helpline are logged with the Disability Directions Manager and dealt with in line with the Forum's complaints procedure.
- To write and update fact sheets.
- To prioritise queries and where necessary escalate complex queries and policy audits to the Disability Direction Manager.
- To liaise with members in a professional manner in all correspondence.
- The ability to be able to answer, log and complete extended queries to the required deadline.
Other
- A To attend events to promote Disability Directions when appropriate
- To maintain the Disability Directions sections of the Website.
- To contribute to Q and A's for the Employers' Forum on Disability's newsletter, 'Employers' Update'.
- To attend team meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
- Team filing and administration.
- Any other duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility. Any changes will be made in consultation with the postholder.
Person specification
Essential
- Previous experience of giving advice on the telephone
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
- Excellent listening skills
- Genuine interest and curiosity in people and organisations
- An interest and willingness to work with business
- Ability to work as part of a small, busy team
- Ability to work on own initiative, managing multiple priorities
- A willingness to learn
- Well organised

- A genuine interest in disability as it affects business.
- Ability to communicate key messages internally and externally.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
- Experience of working within a membership environment
